Scup fishing has been phenomenal!!!!!!

According to Ben Cobb, of Teacher's Pet Charters, the scup fishing has been phenomenal. They were throwing back 11.5 inch porgies because they were the small ones! Sea worms, clams and squid have been the choice baits. We also weighed in a nice 3 pound 10 oz scup that was caught in Nantucket Sound.

There have been reports of many sea bass being caught, but mostly smaller fish.

It seems that all summer long we will be reporting on huge schools of blue fish. The beaches off of Hyannis, Osterville and Cotuit are thick with blues. Top-water plugs are the most fun way to get these fish. The Bounders, Rangers and Ballistic Missiles have caught many bluefish in the last week.

When the wind hasn't been too strong anglers have been able to get out to Bishop & Clerks. The bass love the rocky structure out there (but your boat doesn't, so be very careful). A few guys were wire line jigging and consistently pulling up keeper bass at Bishops the other day. We weighed in a 20 pounder yesterday from a "secret" spot in Nantucket Sound.

One of Sports Ports regulars, Wax, was recently out at Noman's and had his freshly wired Penn 4/0 Senator spooled! Another big one that got away.

The North side has been a little spotty this past week. Nothing like the previous week when we weighed in several bass in the 30 pound range.

This week there have been reports of many schoolies and several keepers, but nothing huge. If you can use mackerel or fresh sand-eels you should get into the fish. Chartreuse/silk ice colored Slug-go's rigged with a jig head are a great lure to throw in the harbor. The Bass and pickerel bite have been good at lake Wequaquet. The trout are on the bite over at Peter's pond in Sandwich. Rough riders are a great gold spoon and of course crawlers and shiners are always an awesome bait for freshwater.

We love to hear your fish stories so stop in the shop or shoot us an email with your fish tales and photos!
