Before we get to this weeks fishing report, I want to let you know that we created a Facebook page for Sports Port. This is just another way for us to stay connected to you. At our page you can make product suggestions, tell the latest fishing story and add your own fish photos. Go check it out.

Striped Bass
Stripers have still been slow on the south side with only a few reports of fish around Nomans, Sankaty, Elizabeth islands and the Nauset inlet. One report consisted of great success as anglers used live or chunked menhaden at Nomans. The Bay still holds many nice fish, but it has really tested your skill and patience. Most reports and personal experience were of extremely docile fish holding between 50 and 75 feet of water. Most people were trolling bunker spoons, jigs or tubes on wire line slow on the bottom at the Parking Lot and Fingers with a miniscule success rate. Even though these fish were marking on the bottom, oddly enough a 48" and 36" bass were caught on top water within the past few days. Up on the other side of the Bay, Billingsgate and the Race had similar reports of finicky bass and big blues blitzing their gear. I guess even a bluefish is better than a Race Point lobster pot.

Bluefish: So if you have the blues from the tough striper fishing, especially in the sound, there's always that go-to solution; bluefish! The days are getting smaller but the bluefish are getting bigger! The sound has loads of nice bluefish mostly from boat, at Monomoy, Sankaty and Horseshoe shoal. The Bay also has many large bluefish around Race point and Billingsgate falling victim to jigs, tubes, bunker spoons and umbrella rigs.

Fluke, Seabass and Scup: The fluke fishing has improved greatly for the party boats in the sound, with an increase in legal sized fish. The seabass fishing has slowed down for some, but the party boats still report nice seabass caught during fluke fishing. We have heard of good fluke fishing over at Middle Ground and Lucas Shoals. If you don't want to go that far try Succonnesset and Wreck Shoal. The scup fishing has been a tough game for the shore fisherman with multiple reports of last year's fishing being much better.

Tuna: Reports of tuna in the Bay are still strong with fish around Stellwagen, Fishing Ledge, and the Race. Casting Slug-go's and RonZ's have been working well. Bluefin fishing has been productive when anglers head east. Other reports south of the Islands include funny fish, marlin and yellowfin. Good Fishing!
